Smart Card ISO7816-4 Commands

Hi,

I went to a webpage and found these commands very interesting. But I got a little confused with the first few ones. I wanna ask, is it the right sequence for the commands for verifying in the heading "Basic Commads" in the webpage? I mean shouldn't we select the file first? and then read in the content and then ask the card to do the verification? Thanz
