Slow update for BLOB field

junjie_2May 19 2011 — edited May 25 2011
Greetings!

We have an Oracle 9i running in Windows 2003 R2 Server. Recently, we reinstalled the OS because of possible virus infection.

After reinstalling and reconfiguring the database, the update command for saving a picture in a table now takes several minutes (and maybe upto several hours), and this wasn't the normal instant save that the users knew.

The update block is similar as below:

begin
update student set photo=:1 where student_id='200110480';
end;

where the paramater is passed through our database application.

I don't know if there had been a configuration in the database that we forgot. And I'm not an expert database admin.. so I tried analyzing all the tables and indexes just in case it needs to after importing the backup, but no joy.

Other update, insert, or select statements runs normal so it might be on updating the BLOB field. Querying the field is normal because we can see the pictures in an instant.

Clients are Windows XP Professional and Windows 7
Our database application is made using .Net framework 1.1 through ODP .Net

Please advise. If this had been asked and answered already, please guide me accordingly.

Thanks for your time.
