SID "went missing"

GeorgeFeb 3 2014 — edited Feb 7 2014

I'm running Oracle 11g on a Windows box.  Over the weekend the machine did a "spontaneous" reboot (i.e., the logs showed no reason for the reboot).  However after restarting the machine and attempting to connect to the database using SQL Developer, I received a message, ORA-12505 ... unknown SID.

I brought up the Oracle configuration assistant and it sees the SID.  The datafiles seem intact.

Is there some way for me to make the SID "visible" again without recreating the database and doing a rebuild back to my most recent backup?

Thanks,

    George
