SID_NAME and SERVICE_NAME confusions

Hi all,

11.2.0.3.10

In our LISTENER.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA can I replace all occurrence of SID_NAME to SERVICE_NAME and vice-versa, and the database connection will still be okay?

What is the advantage of using SID_NAME and SERVICE_NAME?
