shutdown rac database: srvctl vs shutdown

I am new to Oracle and want understand the difference and which is the correct way of shutting down the Oracle 11gR2 RAC Database.

Environment:

O.S: HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64

Oracle RDBMS: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production

using ASM Diskgroups

Question:

What is the diffrence between

 sql> shutdown immediate

 node1>srvctl stop database -d racDB -o immediate

Which does Oracle recommend?
