shutdown immediate hangs after dissmount

ImixApr 6 2009 — edited Apr 6 2009
we have an legacy system 9.2 which shutdowns for cold rman backup every night via cron. been running for years but 3 out of the last 6 runs the database hass hung during a shutdown immediate after the db has been dismounted.

any ideas why it is hanging.

(shutdown abort, startup shutdown immediate fixes the db but causing issues without backup)
