shutdown command does not work on my Solaris 9 machine

807559Jan 29 2007 — edited Jan 31 2007
When I tried to reboot my machine with command /usr/sbin/shutdown -i6 -g0 -y, the system did not reboot. And I used command /usr/ucb/shutdown -r now, the system went down then I got
message "File system / being checked" when system tried to come up,
I had to run fsck manually. Would anyone know how to fix it without running fsck manually when system reboots itself?
Thanks.
