Show "Loading" overlay while page/fragment is loading or updating values

Hello guys,

I need a way to show something to give the used the feedback that something is being done, like updating data or after login.

Something with the behavior of the "status indicator" but that isn't always rendered, and that shouldnt be rendered/unrendered by coding.

Maybe i'll have to use JScript and a DIV with an loading image/gif, i don't know..

Anyone with ideas on how to implement this ?
