Should kernel parameters be set in the /etc/sysctl.conf file for DB 10g R2?

Hi all

I have to set some kernel parameters to install Oracle Database 10g R2 using sysctl. Now I've seen that these parameters will only be set for the current session and after reboot they'll have their default values again.

Now my question: does it make sense to set the parameters directly in the /etc/sysctl.conf file so they will be kept after rebooting the machine? Or do they only have to be set during the install of Oracle DB 10g? Or would they even hurt my system if I'd set them in the /etc/sysctl.conf file?

Thanks for information.
