Should I stop the listener to perform a cold backup ?

Hi guys,

I shutdown all instances on my Oracle servers at night to perform cold backups, but my system administrator asks me to stop the listener as well.

Is it necessary (or recommended) to stop both instances and listener to perform a cold backup ?
