SGA setup with ASM

580855Jun 19 2007 — edited Jul 21 2007
Good morning,
I am working with our hardware guys to get a better setup on our JS21 to SAN setup.

I was talking with the guy about the setup and told him we are using ASM and essentially have 2 instances going.

So he looks at my SGA size in my main database, sees that it is set to 2064M, doubles it, and says that is our problem is that we are taking all 4 Gig with our two Oracle instances.

He now wants me to cut my SGA down. I personally think the problem is that I screwed up with the setup and put the SGA max size too small.

So which answer is right? Should I really be doubling the SGA since I am using ASM?

Side questions: How do I change the SGA_max_size after the database is installed. I see the best practices guide is from 2005? Is it still accurate?

Thanks,
Tim
