I need advice on which printer driver to use when setting up printer queue for Tally Genicom 2250 Dot-Matrix printer on Solaris 10 Sun Fire server. Below are the steps that attempted many times but could not print the text out clearly:

( i ) Use printmgr and select Printer => New Network Printer.
( ii ) Chosed Generic (Printer Make), Generic ESC/P Dot Matrix Printer (Printer Model), foomatic(S): Foomatic/epson (Printer Driver)...
or
Chosed Epson (Printer Make), Epson Dot Matrix (Printer Model), foomatic(S): Foomatic/epsonc (Printer Driver)...
or
Chosed Epson (Printer Make), Epson LQ-2550 (Printer Model), foomatic(S): Foomatic/epsonc (Printer Driver)...
( iii ) lpadmin -p printer_name -I any (or simple). Found postscript to be the worse one.
( iv ) lpstat -lp printer_name
printer printer_name idle. enabled since Wed Apr 06 11:52:30 2011. available.

( v ) Also tried lpadmin -p printer_name -n /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/Generic/Generic-ESC_P_Dot_Matrix_Printer-epson.ppd.gz to use different printer driver without success. Could not set pddfile to /kernel/drv/sparcv9/ecpp which is set to some existing printers even though there are no pdd files in that folder.
( vi ) Could not find any Unix / Solaris specific driver on Tally Genicom (http://www.tallygenicom.com) / Internet in general.

I have spent many days to overcome this issue including changing printer settings but to no avail. There is no problem is this printer since the printer configuration settings had printed out perfectly. Moreover, we have 2 identical working printer that prints had the same clarity issue from printing from this Solaris server only. Also gone through quite a number of printing articles found on the Internet including sites such as Linux Open Printing (http://www.openprinting.org/drivers) and OpenSolaris System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing (http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/SYSADPRTSVCS/gfhdc.html)

I am contemplating on installing CUPS but not sure whether that will resolve this issue.

Your advice would be much appreciated.
