set autotrace on

Hi,
I am using Oracle 10g
i executed
utlxplan.sql,
catalog.sql,
plustrce.sql
without any error.

but i am getting following erro:

SQL> set autotrace on
Cannot SET AUTOTRACE

why i am not able on the trace?
