server crash: is oracle ok?

stephen hulbertApr 18 2011 — edited Apr 18 2011
come in monday morning, find that a client has a "system has recovered from a serious error" dialog on their db server.

why it happened is not my concern.

i do have to tend to eight oracle 9.2.0.7 instances running on the server, though.

i'm a programmer not a dba.

all eight instances appear to be up and running ok.

this client has has an unrecoverably crashed live instance in the past, though (tech turned the server off, yay!) and i'm concerned that "well, it appears to be working" isn't good enough.

are there checks i can do to see whether the databases have sustained damage that is not currently fatal but may prove to be in the future?

or should i, as i always have in the past, assume that oracle is both pretty good at cleaning up after itself and insanely sensitive to real damage. that is, if it were broken even a little bit it would refuse to work?

many thanks in advance,
stephen.
