Separate Code and Data Schemas - does it work in APEX?

BillArms_GSJul 6 2012 — edited Jul 11 2012
Ask Tom and a number of others advocate keeping data schemas separate from code schemas.

We intend to make heavy use of PLSQL in the packages and use APEX driven by procedures and functions. We intend to have very little manipulation (Insert, update, delete, etc) directly from APEX. One major concern is minimizing risk to the data schema as it exists. It has many applications using the data and changing anything is the schema it self may entail a risk.

Does anyone have experience with this methodology in the APEX world (Separate schemas for code and data)? Can APEX handle two or more schemas within one application? Are there 'traps' of which to be aware?

Directions to reading materials are highly appreciated.

Regards,
Bill
