select extract(month from sysdate)+6 = returns 13 and not 1(jan)

Hi
I am using the following query to get the month 6 months from now.

select extract(month from sysdate)+6
from dual

How can I say that the month should be 6 months from todays month? It worked all these days because this month + 6 was always a valid month. Now it returns 13.
