SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE to my user???

I need the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE because I need to select the dictionary views.
Itâs âdangerousâ this role???? Why my DBA wouldnât like to assign my user the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE????
