scope= "session" VS scope="application"

If a Java Bean is initialized with <jsp:useBean name="x"
scope=application class="xpto"> can it be shared by all
users? And if it is declared like <jsp:useBean name="x"
scope=session class="xpto"> ? How many instances of the
bean are created in the both cases?
