Same Design Across Multiple Schemas

J-Jan 26 2025

Oracle 19C database with multiple schemas with (nearly) identical designs.

When I update the model, I'd like to update the “main” schema's design and then selectively apply that design to other schemas.

My plan:

  1. Model all tables (and views, procedures, etc.) for all schemas.

    1. schema1.table1, schema2.table1
  2. Edit schema1's table1 design (for example, add a column)

  3. Use a transformation script to copy the schema1.table1 updates to schema2.table1
    1. add a dynamic property on tables which should be copied over.

I know I could just maintain a single model and change the schema in the DDL before running on each schema (I do that with Erwin right now). But SDDM is free and I'd rather have visibility on the entire database model.

Does my plan seem like a good approach, or am I missing a feature in SDDM that I should use instead?
