samba smbd won't run as daemon - reports "port 139 already in use"

807559Sep 23 2007 — edited Sep 24 2007
Trying to register a new windows client in samba domain but client reports "can't contact
domain controller". This is a system that has been working fine for a year. On the server,
I can't start the smbd daemon -- error is "port 139 already in use". How do I find what is
using the port? It's in /etc/services for nmbd/smbd. Error in /var/adm/messages is "out
of memory, can't use UDP port"; still using IPv4 on the system.
