S10 and ssh access

I have built a S10 server (global zone) and installed a Whole Root zone. I am unable to ssh into my zZonesone1. If I ssh from the global zone to the whole zone on the same server, that works. However if I try to login via putty from my laptop (or any other server) I get prompted for the login name and then I do not get a passwd prompt.
I am fairly new to S10- and zones so hopefully its a simple config issue.
