RTL8139 provided by Realtek halt my machine

I have recently purchased a new Companion laptop (Intel Pentium 2.0 Ghz) fitted with a Realtek RTL8139 card and am trying to configure Solaris 8. I have acquired the latest drivers from the Realtek website (version 1.05) for Solaris 7 & 8.

I have followed the instructions carefully and after running the "Install" script my system halts. Upon subsequent boot-up the system also halts at "Configuring /dev and /devices".

I would be interested in finding out wheather this is a known problem or may be due to the fact that the particular card is a laptop version and/or a newer make.
