RMI, WebServices... Which one is better?

Hi!

I am not new in Java programming but I am new in the filed of Web Services and XML data management. I am developing a client-server application (with secure conecctions) and I want to use XML to manage the information sent and received between the server and the clients. I have been checking all the new technologies that Sun has developed and now I am confused!!

How can I decided wich technology to use? RMI, JAX, Metro, EJB... Somebody can give me a hint.
