RMAN unable to connect to target database

Hi Friends,

I am practicing RMAN on my machine. For disaster recovery I deleted all my files ( moved them to other location) from the location including .dbf files, control files, redo log files.

Now as per steps, I first tried to connect to rman with command,

$ rman target/ nocatalog

or

$ rman target/ catalog cat/cat@tosingh (* tosingh is the netservice name for my recovery catalog server)

but I get the error :

Please help me out. I am not sure. I am not sure, which crucial step I am missing.
