RMAN Retention Policy

LuckysJul 3 2007 — edited Jul 5 2007

Hello,
Following is the output of SHOW ALL

RMAN> show all;

RMAN configuration parameters are:
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS;
CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
...
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\S
NCFCCBPROD.ORA'; # default

I've configured the retention policy to be recovery window of 3 days, looking at the BACKUPSET location of Flash Recovery Area, I see there are more than 3 days of backupsets being maintained, like as of today i've folders from 2007_06_02 to 2007_07_03. (comprising of ARCHIVELOG, SPFILE, CONTROLFILE, FULL_ONLINE_BACKUP). Same goes with the controlfile, when I see the AUTOBACKUP folder. As of today the AUTOBACKUP has folders from 2007_06_09 to 2007_07_03.
My Flash Recovery Area is sized to 45G.

     limit       used  claimable       free
---------- ---------- ---------- ----------
        45 39.1569023 17.2685032 5.84309769

Do I have to configure something else? or this is normal? As this is taking a long time for sending the FRA to the tape. (Veritas)

I see the message in the Alert Log of Backupsets deletion, 'Deleted Oracle managed file...', does FRA automatically deletes backupsets sequentially?
