RMAN Restore on different server, different OS and different Oracle Version

PhelitSep 21 2016 — edited Sep 23 2016

Hello community,

I need some help here. I'm not very good with RMAN and tend to get quite confused. I need to restore a production Database to a Server that has a different OS and a different Oracle Version installed.

This is the scenario:

Source:

Windows Server 2003 R2 64bit

Oracle EE 10.2.0.4 (about 6TB)

RMAN backup on TAPE done Weekly as full Backup and 3 times daily for Archive Logs (with Legato Networker)

Target:

RedHat Server 7.2 64bit

Oracle EE 11.2.0.1

I need to take the backup I do on the 10g and transfer it on the 11g. I already checked that the two versions are compatible, so no problems there.

I can't use the Networker application since the version we have is not compatible with RHEL 7.2 and we can't update it.

What is the best way to restore the DB in this completely new environment?

Thank you all,

Phelit
