RMAN recovery issue through LEVEL 0 and LEVEL 1 incremental backups

user13076519Feb 25 2011 — edited Mar 3 2011
Problem Description: We are recovering our production database on a different host (from its RMAN backups) in order to build a DR like environment. We want to do a continious recovery in this host. ( But its not actual PHYSICAL STANDBY).

The restore and recovery from the LEVEL 0 (base backup) was successful. But when I am doing a recovery for the next incremental (LEVEL 1), it is asking for OLDER archivelog files. We do NOT transfer archivelog files. We transfer only incremental backups to this host. So it must never ask for OLDER archive log files.

1) Copy LEVEL 0 and the subsequent LEVEL 1 backups from production host (prod_host) to DR host (DR_host)
2) Perform a restore and recovery using the LEVEL 0 full backup in DR_HOST

a) The first recovery until the end of LEVEL 0 backup's last archivelog - 108353 ( i.e until time Feb 19 2011 08:22:59) WAS SUCCESSFUL.

b) I then applied the next incremental LEVEL 1 on top of what i did above (Feb 21 2011 02:21:27). This one failed when applying archive log files. I It is asking for OLDER archive log files.

RMAN> run

{
set until time "to_date('Feb 21 2011 02:21:27','Mon DD YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";
allocate channel d1 type disk;
allocate channel d2 type disk;
allocate channel d3 type disk;
allocate channel d4 type disk;
recover database;
}

It restored the datafiles from the incremental level 1 backup, but during the time of applying log files at the end, it was looking for 108356. This is a archivelog generated on Feb 19th after the full LEVEL 0 backup. So it must never look for it.
