RMAN parallel backups: parallel 2 is way slower than parallel 1

raulk89Apr 3 2017 — edited Apr 6 2017

Hi

I have noticed that while doing rman backups in parallel, then backups take a lot longer to finish.

For example, 1TB database incremental lvl 0 backup to disk with parallel 1 takes about 5h 30min to finish, but with parallel 2, it takes about 12h 20min, so it takes more than twice as much time..

RMAN backup run times were both the same, off-peak hour (backup is always started on sunday 9PM).

Just to clarify, I am not using compress at all, also ASM diskgroup redundancy is set to external, but this probably won't make any difference while backing up to disk (restoring from backup depends on redundancy, am I right..?).

How is this possible, anyone has an idea..?

Kind regards

Raul
