rman hosts file / unc path not working

nshep1Jan 29 2009 — edited Jan 29 2009
Hi -
I am trying to use rman to backup to a host that is not in my dns, but in the local host file (c:\windows\system32\drives\etc\hosts).
at the OS level, I can ping the host name in the hosts file ok.

The true host name (in dns, not host file) is fhu53g.
If I try to backup with rman using fhu53g in the unc path - it works perfect!

However, when I try to backup with rman using the host name in the hosts file (datadomain) in the unc path, I keep getting the error below.

RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 01/29/2009 09:02:27
ORA-19504: failed to create file "\\DATADOMAIN\BACKUP\FHU_BACKUPS\ORACLE_RMAN_BACKUPS\FHU27GCCTL_STBY_FHU27G_FGK60RP0_1_1.BAK"
ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 5) Access is denied.

Anyone tell me why RMAN does not seem to be using the hosts file ?

Thanks!
