RMAN database restore+recover (archivelog)

raulk89Jan 4 2018 — edited Jan 12 2018

Hi

I have a question  concering db restoration, that I would like to know.

Our full backup (incremental lvl 0) is made every weekend, and each day incremental lvl 1 is made. Also, each day, archivelog backup is also taken twice per day (6 AM, 17 PM).

Incremental lvl 0/1 and archivelog backups are taken with this command (of cource there is also controlfile backupas well..):

  • backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0/1 database FORMAT '...' tag 'b_incremental_lvl_...' plus archivelog FORMAT '....' tag 'b_archive_log' delete all input;
  • backup as compressed backupset archivelog all format '...' tag 'b_archive_log' delete all input;

So, let's say, that incremental lvl 0 was made on Sunday (31 of Dec 1:00 AM), and incremental lvl 1 backups are made 31 Dec, 1 Jan, 2 Jan, 3 Jan 6:00 PM. So since this morning, I have 1 incremental lvl 0 backup and 4 incremental lvl 1 backups +  loads of archivelog backups (separately made twice per day).

My question is, if I for example restore my database this morning (4 of Jan, so last archivelog backup is made 4 of Jan 6:00 AM), which of these backups are used ..? (of course there is used incremental lvl0 +  4x incremental lvl1 in sequence)

But after the last incremental backup recover, that was made 3 of Jan 6:00 PM. Shouldn't the recover operation recover only these archivelogs that were taken from 3 of Jan 6:00 PM until 4 of Jan 6:00 AM (including)..?

In my case, all of these archivelogs were restored (restore_output.txt).

Regards

Raul
