RMAN backup strategy

Guys,

We are on Oracle 11g. Currently we take a full backup once a day to tape and the retention policy is set to redundancy 7. What I want to do is configure flash recovery area and backup to disk first and then to tape. I want to keep 1 backup on the disk and still keep 7 backups on tape. Is that a reasonable strategy? If so how do I go about setting it up? I read through most of RMAN recipes book and got a good understanding of it but still still want to get some input from the experts here.
