RMAN backup data did not expire

Roger PeiSep 18 2017 — edited Sep 19 2017

I am not DBA but a SA, and don't know RMAN.

We have found a large amount RMAN backups, they appear to be already older than retention policy, but still existing in the backup directory. Obviously, the RMAN did not expire these data, so something went wrong. One possible cause I can think of is that the retention policy might be not set correctly.

How do I address appropriate questions to DBA:

Can DBA still be able to expire these data from RMAN?

Can we still find out information about these backups in RMAN catalog? or Could they be gone in Catalog? If yes, any way to delete them from RMAN?

We wanted to delete them via RMAN, not from OS.

Thank you for your help in advance!
