Restore the whole linux server on which the Oracle DB is running?

Hi, all

Sorry for opening this new thread because I think it is a new question.

I have an Oracle 10g (10.0.1.2) running on a linux redhat 9 server. On sep.13th, the diskgroup space exhausted. With the help from here, I found out that one of the ASM disk group DATADG is full.

I have two ways to do with it:

1. I have the whole linux system backup (I just back up the /)on tapes. May I just restore the whole linux system without installing or configuring the oracle DB?

2. I have the whole DB backup on tapes. I may add a new disk to the DATADG (although I don't know how) and restore the DB.

Which way is right? Which way is better? I need to have the DB run asap.

Any advice is highly appreciated!
