Restore/recover RMAN backup, SPFILE, controlfile, from complete backupset
443853Aug 3 2011 — edited Aug 10 2011Short version: backupset as complete backupset database (full) completed. Subsequently, ALL disks "lost" (reconfigured with new SAN for ASM), but database software still intact. SPFILE references now missing location on ASM disk. On Intel 11.2.0.2.
Database starts with default parameters, now trying to perform RMAN restore from the directory with hundreds of giant files (all about the same size) plus these three:
-rwxrwSrwx 1 oracle dba 4718592 Jul 20 19:18 1imhud73_1_1
-rwxrwSrwx 1 oracle dba 98304 Jul 20 19:18 1jmhud73_1_1
-rwxrwSrwx 1 oracle dba 4734976 Jul 20 22:46 1kmhupdk_1_1
One SPFILE in there, two control files; one of the control files and the SPFILE from AUTOBACKUP during the RMAN backup.
Having a VERY difficult time even restoring the SPFILE and control file from that backup. Tried many scenarios with DB in NOMOUNT, but the RESTORE CONTROLFILE and RESTORE SPFILE commands can't find any files within 7 days, bumped up window to 30 days. The assumption is that the files aren't corrupt, since I can see datafile names and parameter file names with a binary editor in those files above.
What are the high level steps I should be following to successfully restore and recover the SPFILE, control file, and all datafiles? I've tried so many different scenarios, I'd like to start fresh with some high level steps (of which one I'm surely missing), then I can put some real output in this thread... those backup pieces do look like they've been on tape, but I can't say for sure. All I have is one directory with lots of RMAN backup pieces.
Thanks.
