Resetting heap size 1.4.1 ....-Xmx -Xms

I've tried resetting the stack size and heap using -Xms -Xmx (to speed up things on a program I've been running) but the the commnads don't seem to be supported in 1.4.1 for windows.

Are they not supported or is it something really stupid that I'm doing?
Any other tips on how to speed things up would be greatly appreciated
