Replicate & Stop (while active)

872611Sep 25 2012 — edited Sep 25 2012
Hi all

Familiar with GoldenGate only at a high level, and would like to ask a basic question. If someone could help clarify, I would be grateful for assistance.

This question relates to using GG to scale up a number of database and application servers.

We are considering using GG to replicate an entire database (oracle->oracle). This will allow us to transfer customer details onto a separate database instance. After the replication, we will disable GG and start routing "selected" customer messaging through to the copy instance. In this way, we will partition our customer data + application and therefore this will allow us to scale the system.

The question is - can we stop replication while the source DB is active, and still processing transactional data for non-migrating customers? We would not want to impact service for non-migrated customers.

As the data is complex and non-trivial to use GG to filter the source data, we will be replicating the entire data/table set.

Thanks & regards
