removing ASM, part duex

EdStevensApr 16 2012 — edited Apr 17 2012
Oracle Standard Edition 10.2.0.4.0 on Windows 2003.

This weekend I migrated one of our test datbases from ASM to OS files. Migration went as planned. I'm showing no data, temp, redo or control files on ASM. No _DEST initialization parms are pointing to ASM resources.

So this morniing I thought I'd just stop the ASM windows service as one last chance to see if anything breaks. I was surprised to get a response from Windows that if I stopped the service it would also stop the service for the db instance.

None of the docs I've read say anything about this. (I'm not saying it's not documented, just that nothing I've seen addresses it.) I've got several docs on migrating the data files of a database, some docs on removing the ASM software, but this response from windows suggests there's something I still need to do do disassociate this database from ASM.

Connecting to the ASM instance and issuing 'select instance_name from v$asm_client' returns zero rows.

What would be causing this linkage between the supporting windows services? This leaves me concerned that anything I might do at this point to finish cleaning up and removing ASM will still impact the db instance, even though it has no files in ASM.

Also, what do I need to do with the service OracleCSService? There is no clustering involved here - unless that's something else no one has told me!
