Relocation of existing instance to a new server

428153Jan 31 2008 — edited Jan 31 2008
Hello,

could anyone provide me information about getting a working instance from an old server to a newer one?

Currently, we have 9.2.0.6 EE running on Win Server 2003 SE 32bit with about 300G of tablespace data. The SGA size is about 1G. The filesystem is NTFS on a RAID. We do need a bigger server. The architecture will stay 32bit Windows 2003.

Is it necessary to bring my old instance to 9.2.0.8 before moving?
Should I apply the latest patch before moving the instance?

How should i move the data?
- transportable tablespaces?
- exp of all schemas on the old system, imp on the new system?
- just copy all in ORACLE_BASE and recreate the Windows services?

Currently, we create daily dumps of almost all schemas.

Maybe anyone knows some metalink notes about that?

Thanks,
mic
