Reloading the Listener

Hi
How do I see the effect of re-loading the listener.? Please read below. Did I do correct ?

My understanding is, "reloading refresh the listener with the most current information."

I did the following to see the effect of the changes I have made to listener.ora

1. made the changes to listener.ora
2. lsnrctl reload
3. opened the new terminal window and started connecting to the database using sqlplus ?
4. I did not find effect of the changes I have made
