Registering Oracle database to recovery catalog with the same name

834137Apr 14 2011 — edited Apr 14 2011
Hi,

I want to verify if we can register same database name in recovery catalog.

Here is the scenario.

I have an old database environment which i migrated to a new server.

Upon migration, same configurations were applied. Database name is still the same.

Now both database are running the old and the same one.

Before i finally put the database to go-live state, i want to create a backup first of the database in rman and register it in the recovery catalog.

The problem is that the old database is still registered of course with the same name as the new one.

Would it be possible to register two databases with the same name? or will it overwrite the existing one if i register the new database.

Platform is: Sun Solaris

Database Version: Oracle 9i
