REGEXP_LIKE multiple rows

ok
im quite new to sql and pl and have been messing around for a bit
i remember that some time ago i needed to do a like with multiple criteria held in a table

it was suggested i used Reg_exp like (col1, (select col2 from criteriatable))
is this possible or am i just imagining it?
