Reg: What it takes to become a "Database Architect"?

915396Nov 9 2014 — edited Nov 17 2014

Hi Experts,

This is not a technical question but a general "career-related" one, and hope it is valid to post under this "General" section.

I always wonder -- what skills must a database architect possess?

Is it limited to knowing only a particular database in full depth?

Does it require hardware knowledge also, or network, or storage options like SAN or NAS etc.?

Like say I might have to choose between an in-memory database, Shall i choose Oracle In-memory or SAP HANA?

Please advise and share your experience(s).

p.s. this will help a lot of people like me, who wish to become a database architect and start learning appropriately.

Thanks and Regards,

-- Ranit
