Redo threads in RAC env

I queried the gv$log in my 2 node RAC db and I got this.

SQL> select INST_ID, THREAD#, BYTES, MEMBERS, STATUS from gv$log;

I thought each instance will have its own thread. It seems one instance has 2 threads in this case. I am bit confused. can someone please clarify. Thanks
