Redo Log Sizing: The Myths and the Truths about it...

unknown-2973982Feb 26 2016 — edited May 14 2016

Hello All, I hope this thread finds you all in good rising spirits since its FRIDAY

I was checking the db alert log and I noticed allot of frequent log switching, so I thought, hey I will just look to see what they are sized.

To my absolute chagrin, I saw 7 log groups, 4 sized at 50MB a piece and 2 sized at 10MB.

I almost fell out of my chair.

I cannot believe what I am seeing....

NO WONDER the thing is SLOW?!?!?!?!

I then looked at PROD, and it's the same thing, except with 1 more group sized at 50MB...UNREAL?!?!?!?!?!

How do you all "Calculate" what the sizing should be per group?

I normally look at the alert log and if it's switching one per hour or even 30 minutes, they are generally sized right now...

On DEV, with NO activity, they are switching once every 10 minutes or so....

I cannot believe this has been so neglected....

Thanks,

Lady Allora...
