Redo log groups and members

Hi I have become very confused looking at the documentation for redo logs groups and members in 11g.

Please could someone help me with the following?

-what is the difference between a redo log group and members within the group?

- how does adding a member help to protect / multiplex a group?

-Im sure I read that if all members in the current redo log group are demaged then the other 2 groups cant be used to bring the database back to how it was? ... so whats the point in having them?

Any help would be appriciated
