Recovering data from SAM-FS tapes?

Hello all,

I've been handed about 50 DLT IV tapes that were written to via SAM-FS 2.0 in 2006 and have been asked to try to recover the data on them. The SAM-FS host that wrote them is long gone.

Is there a way to recover the files without having SAM-FS installed anywhere? I've never used it before.

If not, what's my best course of action? If I set up a new instance of SAM-FS somewhere, would it be able to import the old tapes?

Anyone out there familiar with SAM-FS?
