Recommendations on working with mutiple Application Modules in a project

Hi,

I am using jdev 11.1.2.4.

I am designing an application which will have a Master Project containing 4 sub projects. These sub projects will have there own Application Modules using same database.

The Master project (having its own Application Module) will then be consuming these sub projects. This means there will be 5 application modules in the application (the number of sub projects can increase in the future hence creating more AMs).

My question is, is this the right approach?  will there be any performance issues? what's the best practice to design such kind of projects?
