Recommend me a file-level version control system

hi ,

can you recommend me a file-level version control system that delivers restore point and team coordination capabilities.?

i found a microsoft tool called Visual SourceSafe .

is it good , or is there a tool for Oracle or a better tool from any company you recommend me to use ?

P.S : preferably free of course .
