Rebuilding Indexes improves performance
Hi All,
We have a database of size 4TB with Oracle 10.2.0.5.0 version and Ibm-AIX OS. Its a datawarehouse database. I am very new to OLAP databases , Dont know much about it. But with respect to the DB knowledge i would like to clear my doubts on Rebuliding the Indexe process.
We have request for refresh of the Test database schema which is of size almost 700GB and It must be refreshed once in two weeks from the Producation database schema. When we use to take exports and perform iimports from prod to test earlier it used to take atleast 6 hours for export and 12-13 hours for import operation. But three weeks before we started to rebuild the indexes of the same schema on the prod and the test as well.
Now, when we take the export the schema it completes only in 45 mins @ prod and import in 3 hours of time @ test. I am not sure whether rebuilding the indexes has improved the export/import operations.
We use datapump for the export/import operations. we use flashback parameter during the expdp/impdp and parallelism of degree 12. Earlier we used to use the same parameters but we never did rebuilding of the indexes. We started the rebuilding the indexes three weeks back and for last three weeks we have gained improvement in export/import operations.
Can anyone put a light on the above doubt that i have.
I would be very thankful if anyone could help me in understanding the above doubt.
Thanks in advance,
