Reason for an Unbalanced Journal

Dear All,

I am in a situation wherein the client is questioning the reasons for the availability of an "Unbalanced" journal. (11.1.2.2 Version)

Are there specific Business case scenarios, which require posting an unbalanced Journal?

Is there a way in which we can hide the option being seen in the drop down (Unbalanced). Client doesn't even want to look at it, as he says it is against Financial practices.

Any help regarding this would be appreciated.
